Glandular fever or in other words mononucleosis is a disease caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). It often happens to teenagers and is therefore often called the “Kissing disease”. This is because kissing is a method of transmitting the virus, just like sharing food or drinks.
This disease is fortunately not fatal, however, the symptoms can be very unpleasant. In addition, glandular fever can be experienced even worse by laryngitis, tonsillitis and even ruptured sinuses. In rare cases there are even reports of anemia, thrombocytopenia or inflammation of the heart.
In most cases, the recovery of the kissing disease will automatically heal between 4 to 8 weeks. However, if you suspect that you have glandular fever, it is necessary to visit a doctor. There are no known cures and medicines that can speed up the recovery process, but a doctor can give you useful information about the disease. The doctor can treat the symptoms, which will speed up the recovery.
